EURAMI board and president resign

On 28 June, the members of the board of the European Aero-Medical Institute (EURAMI) issued a statement announcing their resignation, citing conflicts with the Institute’s president, Dr Michael Weinlich, owner of Med Con Team. Reacting to this move, Weinlich announced today, 29 June, that he will also resign as soon as interim board members are in place, or, if this does not happen before the end of October, he will resign at the EURAMI members meeting â€" to be held at the ITIC Barcelona conference from 29 October to 1 November. Legally registered in Germany, EURAMI provides a voluntary audit and accreditation service to air ambulance providers. Currently, 30 organisations from around the world hold EURAMI-accredited status, which serves as a hallmark of quality. In an open letter co-signed by Dr Michael Braida, Dr Bettina Vadera, Dr Gert Muurling, Volker Lemke and Dr Laurent Taymans, the board members explained that their resignation was prompted by a ‘complete lack of confidence in the current leadership shared unanimously by all members of the board’. The letter further stated: “This has been compounded by outstanding conflicts with the EURAMI president, which we attempted to resolve, but to no avail. Whilst we believe in EURAMI as a professional organisation, the dissociation between the members of the board and the president has reached a point where it leaves us no choice but to resign collectively.” The move constituted the formal resignation of each and every member of the EURAMI board of directors. The operational work of EURAMI will not be affected during the transition period, assured Weinlich, and Andrew Wither, permanent secretary of the EURAMI office, will continue the operational functions of EURAMI. Dr Bettina Vadera, medical director of AMREF Flying Doctors, gave Waypoint this statement: “While all of the board members are fully behind the concept of EURAMI as an organisation for audit, accreditation and standards control, the current situation between the board and the president has resulted in an unproductive working relationship.” She added that the board members believe that their resignation will prove to be a positive step for EURAMI, which will ultimately result in a change of leadership to create a stronger, better organisation in the future. Vadera continued: “[The board members] are convinced that EURAMI will regroup and move on." Concluding his statement of resignation, Weinlich said: “It has been an honour to be president of EURAMI for 12 years. I am convinced that EURAMI will successfully continue. I will also contribute to the future success as a regular EURAMI member.” ShareThis Powered By iWebRSS.co.cc
