Travelling to London with a Family

Travelling to London as a single person, couple or with a group of adults is usually exciting and keenly anticipated, but for many people, the thought of making this journey with a family can evoke fear and much trepidation. This need not be so! London is a wonderful travel destination for families and, in reality, is completely manageable. With so much to see, do and experience, England’s capital offers enjoyment for travellers of all ages and interests. Many children love to ride London’s double decker buses, are intrigued by its underground network and really enjoy trips by boat down the River Thames. Of course, London is famous for its black cabs. Taking a journey in one of these cabs is usually a great experience and one that is exciting for family members of all ages. Iconic sites:  When in London, there are many famous landmarks and sights to see. The great thing about this city is that it is remarkably compact and so it is possible to see a range of icons in close proximity, including: Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The Ritz Hotel, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye and London Aquarium, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Covent Garden, the Southbank…and so much more. Food:  London is acknowledged as one of the world’s most expensive cities and so it follows that restaurants and other options for eating can be quite expensive. However, it is definitely possible to find family friendly, reasonably priced and good quality places to eat (including pubs). With an extensive range of multicultural restaurants, it is highly recommended that cuisine such as: Indian and Pakistani food be sampled â€" London has some of the best ethnic restaurants in the world and children frequently enjoy the tastes and experience too. London also features some wonderful parks, so on a good day, a wonderful option for families is to make or buy their own food and have an impromptu picnic in the park. Theatre:  If your children are old enough, a trip to one of the West End theatres in London is a fantastic, special and memorable experience. You will be spoilt for choice of shows to see in this great city and some bargain priced tickets can be secured, particularly when purchased from the official TKTS ticket booth in Leicester Square on the day that you want to see a show. Shopping:  Although the thought of taking your family on a shopping expedition may well give you the chills, it is worth noting that London has some of the world’s best shops and shopping districts. One of the most amazing toy shops in the world is Hamley’s located in Regent Street, Central London, and this incredible store will almost certainly capture the attention of all family members. Travelling to and around London with a family can be a wonderful experience. Try not to pack too much into a day and be flexible with your schedule and plans â€" London is a kid-friendly location and sometimes the best discoveries can be spontaneously made.
