Summer week in Maramures, a beautiful Romanian region where old local tradition is still alive. The wooden churches in Maramures are Unesco heritage sites.
This Romanian Orthodox church is found in Plopis, a village in the Cavnic river valley. The church sits on a small hill above the rest of the village. It was constructed in 1796 by local village builders and consecrated as the Church of the Archangels.

It is not unusual in Maramures to find horse-cars on the streets. Visiting Maramures sometimes looks like an exciting travel into the past.

The Merry Cemetery is located in Sapanta. It is famous for its colourful tombstones with naive paintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons that are buried there as well as scenes from their lives.

Sheep and shepherd in the village of Ieud. Just across from the wooden church, a very nice lady welcomed us with delicious local âmamaligaâ, melted cheese and smoked meat.
